For those of you wishing to add a little more exoticism to your gardens than the British weather would suggest, here's the Japanese banana palm (Musa Basjoo).

Needing warmer weather to grow and product small green fruits, the Musa Basjoo can be planted in milder UK climates or grown in a pot to enable you move it inside a conservatory, greenhouse or sheltered patio depending on the temperature change.

The plant can grow up to 5m tall, with huge, almost architectural leaves so think carefully about where you want to put it!
