When selecting a swing set, consider both the age of your children and the space available. For younger toddlers, look for sets that include high-back baby seats with safety harnesses. For older children, a sturdy wooden double swing set offers more longevity and social play. Always ensure you have a "clearance zone" of at least 2 metres (6.5 feet) in front of and behind all outdoor play equipment to allow for a safe arc of movement without hitting obstacles.

To keep your swing set hygienic and looking its best, wipe down the seats and ropes regularly with a damp cloth and mild soapy water to remove bird droppings, pollen, and garden grime. If you have a wooden frame, a seasonal scrub with a soft brush will prevent the build-up of green algae. Checking the seats for any standing water after rain will also help prevent slippery surfaces and keep the equipment ready for immediate play.

Yes, for safety and stability, all garden swing sets should be securely anchored. Even heavy timber frames can shift or lift during vigorous swinging. Most of our sets include ground anchors designed to be driven into the earth or set in concrete. This ensures the frame remains perfectly level and stable, preventing the legs from "walking" or tipping over during use.

A squeaky swing is usually caused by friction between the metal carabiner or hook and the swing hanger. To fix this, apply a small amount of weather-resistant lubricant, such as silicone spray or WD-40, to the moving metal parts. Avoid getting any lubricant on the ropes or the seat itself, as this can make the equipment slippery and unsafe for children to hold onto.

A swing set should always be installed on a level, impact-absorbing surface. While a well-maintained lawn is a common choice, for maximum safety we recommend a deeper base of play-grade bark, rubber mulch, or safety mats under the swinging arc. Never install a swing set directly onto hard surfaces like concrete or patio slabs, as these provide no protection if a child jumps or falls from the seat.

Our wooden swing sets are typically made from pressure-treated timber, offering excellent protection against rot. To maintain their appearance, we recommend checking the bolts for tightness at the start of every spring and applying a child-safe wood treatment or water-repellent stain every year or two. This prevents the wood from drying out or silvering in the sun, ensuring the frame remains strong and splinter-free for years of play.
