  • The Calathea Makoyana originates from Brazil, but nowadays you can find it all over the world as a houseplant. The plant's popularity is due to the beautiful drawing on the leaves. These pale green leaves have dark green stripes, shaped like feathers, that run from the centre of the leaf to the outer edges.

This beautiful drawing has earned this plant the nickname Peacock Plant. A new leaf appears rolled up. This allows you to take a good look at the purple underside before it unrolls.

With the Calathea Makoyana you get a plant with tropical looks at home.

Please note that all our plants come in simple plastic pots unless otherwise stated in the product name. If you wish to pot yours up we do have a wide range of pots to choose from.

  • This product will come with any relevant warnings please read carefully before use.
  • By regularly pruning the dead leaves you keep this plant in good shape. Always use a clean and sharp blade to avoid unnecessary damage to the plant. Prune leaves as close to the base as possible.

If they get too much light, the colours and the drawings on the leaf will fade. If they get too little light, the drawings will fade. Another signal of too little light is increasingly longer stems and less and less leaves. The Calathea Makoyana then looks for light, as it were.

The right frequency and amount of water are always difficult with houseplants. The soil should remain slightly moist, but should never be soggy. Always give small amounts of water. Pay attention to the signals that the Calathea Makoyana gives. If the plant starts to get yellow leaves, this means too long a period of too much water. Then you know that you should water less often and less. If the leaves start to hang or curl up, you are not watering enough.

The Calathea Makoyana is a fairly slow grower. Growth mainly takes place in spring and summer. As the days get shorter, growth will slow down (read more about plants and light?).

The need for nutrition is greatest during the growing period. During the period, give a little liquid houseplant food 1 to 2 times a month. Read the instructions on the packaging carefully. Feeding too much can cause damage to the plant.
