As the name suggests, Tulip The First, is a short flowering bulb and is one of the first to flower, bearing red and white flowers in March above attractive dark mottled foliage. Suitable for planting in your favourite pots, containers or in your flower beds preferably at the front. Very early spring flowering.

Tulips are excellent in the rock garden, in formal bedding, as elegant cut flowers and for containers. Their bold flowers are generally simple in outline and held upright, often with bright, strong colours.

Many of the specieis deserve to be more widely grown alongside the large variety of hybrid currently available. Tulipa is classified in 15 divisions. They require a sunny position with well-drained soil and appreciate a summer baking; in cool, wet areas, bulbs may be lifted, when the leaves have died down, and stored in a dry place for replanting in autumn.

Propagate by dividions of bulbs in autumn or, for species, by seed in spring or autumn. If ingested, all parts may cause mild stomach upset, and contact with any part may aggravate skin allergies.
