Tulips are happy growing in a wide range of soils as long as there is good drainage. They do like sunshine, but the flowers will last longer when they are planted in partial shade. This Tulip Border Mix is a varied assortment of tall tulips.

They are ideal for containers, borders and beds where they will naturalise if left undisturbed. Why not grow some just for cutting, try multi-level or underplanting for stunning spring displays.

Tulips are excellent in the rock garden, in formal bedding, as elegant cut flowers and for containers. Their bold flowers are generally simple in outline and held upright, often with bright, strong colours.

Many of the specieis deserve to be more widely grown alongside the large variety of hybrid currently available. Tulipa is classified in 15 divisions. They require a sunny position with well-drained soil and appreciate a summer baking; in cool, wet areas, bulbs may be lifted, when the leaves have died down, and stored in a dry place for replanting in autumn.

Propagate by dividions of bulbs in autumn or, for species, by seed in spring or autumn. If ingested, all parts may cause mild stomach upset, and contact with any part may aggravate skin allergies.
