Red Sun produces a good harvest of attractive, red-skinned bulbs, with crisp white flesh and a sweet flavour. This variety is excellent for pickling, or chopping up in salads. Plant Red Sun in the early spring for harvest in August. They keep for a long time after harvest, too, so you'll be guaranteed to have home-grown shallots for months to come.
