Make homemade sunflower seed butter

We can enjoy eating sunflower seeds as they are, sprinkled on top of meals, or added to soups and smoothies. But did you know that sunflower seeds can also be blended into a butter? This is a tasty way to enjoy these scrumptious seeds and it’s so easy to make in just three simple steps! Let’s get started…

Sunflower seed butter

Prep time: 10 minutes

Before you begin, gather everything you need:

  • A blender or food processor

  • 400g sunflower seeds

  • 50g coconut oil

  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/4 tsp sea salt

Now it’s time to make your butter!

  1. You’ll need an adult to help with this first step. Begin by dry frying your sunflower seeds on a medium heat in a large pan until golden brown
  2. Add your toasted sunflower seeds into a blender along with the coconut oil. Blend on a low setting until smooth
  3. Once your seed mixture is smooth, add the honey, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend one final time

And there you have it… your very own sunflower seed butter! It’s delicious on toast, crackers, or rice cakes. You can also use it as a tasty dip for fruit and veg. Store your sunflower seed butter in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 month
