Winter Bird Watching

Grab your binoculars and get ready to become a winter bird detective!

Winter might be chilly, but it’s also one of the best times to spot birds. With food harder to find, many visit gardens more often in search of tasty treats.

Download and print our Winter bird checklist and take it into the garden or to your local park. As you spot each bird, tick them off. Can you find a robin with its bright red chest, a blackbird hunting for worms, or a blue tit hopping from branch to branch?

Why not keep a birdwatching journal too? Write down the time of day you see a bird, what it was doing, and how many you spotted. You could even sketch a quick picture of it! If you see the same kind of bird often, find out more about it, like what it likes to eat. Then, try putting its favourite food into your feeder to see if you can encourage it to visit again.

We’d love to see what you discover! Don’t forget to take photos of the birds you spot and tag us using #DobbiesLittleSeedlings
