What you'll need:
Apple pips (seeds) from an apple
Kitchen paper (paper towel)
A small clear plastic bag or container
A small plant pot
Compost or soil
Water
1. Collect your pips
Carefully take the seeds out of an apple. You can wipe them clean with kitchen paper.
2. Let them have a little rest
Leave the pips to dry for a day on a piece of kitchen paper.
3. Time to chill
Wrap the pips in damp kitchen paper. Put them inside a plastic bag or container and place them in the fridge. This helps them think it's winter — which they need to start growing!
4. Be patient
Leave them in the fridge for about 4 to 6 weeks. Check now and then to make sure the paper stays damp, not soggy.
5. Look for roots
When you see little white roots starting to grow from the seeds, they’re ready to plant.
6. Plant your baby trees
Fill a small pot with soil or compost. Make a little hole with your finger and gently place
the seed inside, root down. Cover it with a bit of soil.
7. Water and wait
Give it a little water and place the pot somewhere sunny, like a windowsill. Keep the soil damp but not too wet.
8. Watch it grow
With care, your apple seed will sprout into a tiny tree. It might take a few weeks, so be patient. Keep watering it when the soil feels dry.
