Materials needed:
Paper
Pens, pencils, or crayons
Dinosaur toys
A source of light (like the sun if you’re outside or a table lamp if you’re indoors)
Something hard to lean on like a placemat or a large, hard-backed book
Step 1: Set up your dino shadow landscape
Place your hard surface down, with the paper on top. Next, set up your dinosaur toys so that they cast shadows in the sun. You might need to move around a bit to get into a good position to draw.
Step 2: Play with the angles
Move your dinosaur to adjust the size of the shadow it casts. You could draw a small, more accurate dinosaur or a much bigger one that’s a bit less detailed.
Step 3: Pick up your pens!
Using the dinosaur’s shadow as a guide, draw an outline of your dino on the paper. Make sure to take your time and get all in the nooks and crannies!
Step 4: Decorate your dino
Once you’re finished doing the outline, you can decorate or colour in the rest of your dinosaur. Will you make it bright and fun or scary and scaly? The sky’s the limit!
