Making the compost: place the peat-free compost pellet in a suitable mixing container and add 350ml of lukewarm water. Allow to stand and expand for 30-60 minutes, drain off any excess water and mix compost well.You may have more compost than you require and more water could be required if the compost mix is looking dry.

Fill 80% of each pot with comppst and gently moisten. Place the seeds by variety in each pot, cover with a very thin layer of compost and water lightly. Protect all surfaces by placing the posts on a saucer or tray. Move to a warm, well lit area; a windowsill is ideal but full sunshine will dry out the compost rapidly. The compost must be kept moist at all times, never being allowed to dry out.

Once established, put the strongest seedlings into larger pots (not supplied). Continue to grow indoors or on the patio once the risk of frost has passed (June to September).
