Egg carton ladybird

Make your own egg carton ladybirds

These tiny insects are known for their bright, distinctive colours and spots, and because they feed on things that are harmful to plants, they also help our gardens grow! In some cultures, ladybirds are even considered a symbol of good luck or good fortune. Here we’ll show you how to recycle old egg cartons to make your own lucky ladybirds

Step 1: Cut your egg cups

Use your scissors to cut out each cup of your egg carton. Paint them red and let them dry

Step 2: Draw on the spots

Draw a line down the middle of each cup and some spots on either side

Step 3: Stick on the pom poms

Use your glue to stick on the pom poms – these will be your ladybirds’ heads. Add the googly eyes to make a face

Step 4: Add the antennae

Cut your pipe cleaner into 2-inch pieces, curl the ends then stick on two per ladybird, just above their heads

Step 5: Let them dry

Once the glue has dried your lady birds are ready to play with!
