  • Dobbies Peat Free No 3 Mature Plant Compost + JI 25L is ideal for planting most shrubs and trees in containers and borders. It has been specially developed, with all the vital minerals for maintaining plant growth and health.

With its new mix of loam and grit, it provides the perfect structure for your plant’s roots. Please note this compost is not suitable for ericaceous plants. We recommend using Dobbies ericaceous compost with peat free John Innes for all acid loving plants like Azaleas, Camellias, Rhododendrons or Heathers.

  • Health & Safety Advice:
    - Always use this compost in a well-ventilated area, ensuring to avoid breathing in dust.
    - Keep away from children and pets
    - Wear gloves while gardening and wash your hands thoroughly after use.

  • How to use:
    - Put on a pair of gloves & crumble compost between your hands to break down any lumps so that it regains its open texture.

    Planting in containers:
    - Potting is best done in the spring, summer or autumn when plants are actively growing
    - Before potting, water plants well & allow to drain away
    - Put fresh compost in the bottom of a new pot
    - Turn the old plant upside down and tap the pot sharply to release
    - Place the plant in the middle of the new pot ensuring the rootball is not buried too deep, then add more compost, firming lightly around the rootball
    - Leave a space of at least 1cm below the pot rim to allow adequate space for watering
    - Water the plant well

    Planting in borders:
    - Planting is best done in the spring, summer or autumn when plants are actively growing
    - Before planting, water plants well & allow to drain away
    - Dig hole at least 4 times the size of the container that plant is growing in
    - Break up the sides of the hole & fill it with the compost leaving an indent for the rootball
    - Turn the plant upside down & tap the pot sharply to release
    - Place the plant in the middle of the hole ensuring the rootball is not buried too deep, then add more compost, firming well around the root-ball with your hands or heel
    - Leave a shallow indent around the plant to hold water, then water the plant well
