Basil Serrata produces unusual serrated leaves with a spicy basil flavour, the leaves are especially good for use in Asian dishes. Can be grown indoors on a windowsill all year round.

Sow March to May, or all year round for pots indoors in pots or trays of moist compost. Sow thinly, cover lightly with compost Firm gently. Cover with clear glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at 15-20°C and keep moist Seedlings appear 7-14 days. Remove cover when seedlings appear. Thin plants to further pots or trays if necessary. To grow outdoors, stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts) plant out 15cm apart. To grow indoors, transplant to 15cm pots of compost, place in a light airy location.
