To check availability for collection in your local store, please use the "Click and collect" option and choose your store. Reserving a tree is free and all orders placed before 4pm can be collected the next day. Our colleagues will pick the best tree available in the size that has been ordered and store it in a cool, dry place outdoors until you come to collect. Your tree will not be netted until you have viewed and are happy with your purchase. Once you have confirmed you are happy, we will net the tree for you to take home. Orders will only be held for 72 hours.
A real Christmas tree typically lasts four to six weeks with proper care. Keep it well-watered and away from direct heat sources to maintain freshness and minimise needle drop - so don’t keep yours right next to a radiator. Our pot grown trees are still living and so can be planted in the garden after Christmas.
Yes, real Christmas trees are generally safe for pets, but extra care is needed around cats and dogs. The needles can be sharp and mildly toxic if ingested, so vacuum fallen needles regularly. Keep your pet from chewing branches or drinking tree water, which may contain sap or preservatives that can upset their stomach. For cats, secure the tree firmly to prevent tipping if they climb it, and avoid hanging low, tempting ornaments that will tempt at exploring paws.
Not at all. When grown sustainably, real trees are carbon neutral and biodegradable. Ours are replanted annually by UK growers, supporting local habitats and reducing waste compared to artificial trees.
They’re safe when kept well-watered and away from open flames or heat sources. Dry trees can ignite easily, so always check your lights are low-heat LEDs and switch them off overnight.
At Dobbies we generally start selling our pot grown Christmas trees from the end of October and our real trees from the end of November. To keep your real tree fresh through Christmas, buy it no earlier than the last week of November or early December.
Many choose real trees for their authentic scent, natural beauty and sustainability. They bring a traditional, festive atmosphere that even the best artificial trees simply can’t replicate - but they do need a bit of extra care and maintenance, so feel free to ask one of our in-store experts if a real tree is right for you or not.
The Nordmann Fir is popular for its low needle drop, while the Blue Spruce offers a classic scent and traditional look. Both are excellent choices depending on your style and space. Our pot grown trees are perfect for smaller spaces and doorsteps.
Cut a small slice off the trunk before placing it in a stand with fresh water, and top up daily. Keep it away from radiators and fireplaces to prevent it drying out.
You can recycle it, compost it, or use the branches for garden mulch. Some Dobbies garden centres also offer tree recycling schemes for a sustainable end to the season.
Most councils offer recycling or chipping services in January. You can also take your tree to a local recycling centre or compost it at home if space allows.
