Apex Sheds

Our apex sheds feature the iconic "A-frame" pointed roof, offering a traditional aesthetic and superior central headroom that is perfect for taller gardeners and workshop use.

The apex shed remains the most popular choice for British gardens, prized for its classic silhouette and practical drainage. With two roof slopes meeting at a central ridge, this design naturally directs rainwater away from the sides and provides an airy, spacious feel inside that is ideal for moving around comfortably. Whether you are looking for a compact timber store for your tools or a large-scale metal workshop, our range of apex roofed garden sheds combines heritage style with modern durability to suit any outdoor space.

The main advantage of an apex roof is the increased internal height along the centre of the building. This makes it much more comfortable for taller individuals to stand upright and move around. Additionally, the dual-slope design ensures efficient water run-off on both sides, reducing the risk of water pooling and protecting the roofing felt from premature wear.

For most people, yes. Because the highest point is in the middle, an apex shed allows you to stand comfortably at a workbench while still having plenty of head clearance. The traditional shape also makes it easier to install overhead storage or hanging racks for larger tools like rakes and shovels without feeling cramped.

Absolutely. In fact, apex sheds are ideal for guttering. Because the roof slopes to both sides, you can install gutters along each eave to collect rainwater into water butts. This is an excellent way to save water for your garden while protecting the base of your shed from heavy splash-back during downpours.

Since an apex shed is usually taller than a pent model, it often looks best as a standalone feature in a garden or positioned centrally against a back wall. Because the roof slopes down on two sides, you should leave a small gap between the shed and any fences to allow for proper drainage and to make maintenance access easier.

At Dobbies, we offer apex sheds in three main materials. Timber provides a classic, natural look that is easy to customise; metal offers high security and fire resistance; and plastic (resin) sheds provide a modern, low-maintenance solution that won't rot, rust, or ever need painting.

The roof is the most important part of your shed's weatherproofing. For timber models, ensure the roofing felt is securely tacked down and free from tears. We recommend checking the roof annually for debris like moss or fallen leaves, as these can trap moisture and cause the timber underneath to rot over time.
