Check the packaging or plug for an IP rating of IP44 or higher. This means the lights are weather-resistant and safe to use outside in rain and frost. 

Use plastic clips, cable ties or adhesive hooks designed for outdoor use. They prevent damage to brickwork, gutters or window frames while keeping lights secure. 

Always use an outdoor-rated extension lead and waterproof socket cover. Plug into an RCD-protected outlet for safety, or choose battery or solar-powered lights for flexibility. 

Measure the area you want to decorate (such as fences, eaves or trees) and add 10–15% extra length to allow for curves, draping and connections. 

Wrap each strand loosely around a spool or piece of cardboard, secure the plug ends, and store them in a dry, airtight container or storage bag away from damp and heat. 

Unplug the lights first, then wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt or debris. Avoid submerging them in water or using harsh chemicals.

Yes. LEDs use less energy, stay cool to the touch, and last much longer than incandescent bulbs, making them ideal for outdoor displays. Quality LED lights can last several years (often up to 25,000 hours) if properly stored and handled between seasons. 

Many households start decorating from late November, but it’s perfectly fine to add a festive glow earlier as the evenings get darker. 

Tradition suggests removing them by 6th January (Twelfth Night). Leaving them up longer is fine, but we recommend switching them off after the festive period to save energy and prevent weather wear.
