  • Health & safety advice:
    - Use in a well-ventilated place & avoid breathing in dust
    - Always wear gloves when gardening & wash hands after using compost

  • How to use:
    - Put on a pair of gloves & crumble compost between your hands to break down any lumps so that it regains its open texture.

    Soil improvement:
    - Place a 2.5cm layer over the surface of your soil & fork or hoe into the surface
    - Take care to avoid damage to the shallow roots of plants

    Mulching & weed prevention:
    - Apply a 5cm layer over the surface of the soil taking care to not bury plant stems
    - Planting mature plants in borders
    - Planting is best done in the spring, summer or autumn when plants are actively growing
    - Before planting, water plants well & allow to drain away
    - Dig hole at least 4 times the size of the container that plant is growing in
    - Break up the sides of the hole and incorporate Dobbies soil improver with slow release plant food into the base & sides of the hole
    - Turn the plant upside down & tap the pot sharply to release
    - Place the plant in the middle of the hole ensuring the root ball is not buried too deep, then add more soil and soil improver mix, firming well around the root ball with your hands or heel
    - Leave a shallow indent around the plant to hold water, then water the plant well

Please note this soil improver is not suitable for ericaceous plants. We recommend using Dobbies ericaceous compost with peat free John Innes for all acid loving plants like Azaleas, Camellias, Rhododendrons or Heathers.

    Handy gardening tips:
    - Store in a dry, frost-free place away from any garden chemicals
    - Reseal the bag after use
    - Not suitable for use with ericaceous (acid loving) plants
