Types of Lilies

  • Asiatic – among the earliest to flower in June & early July. Lots of colours but mostly scent-free
  • Oriental – beautiful with large striped/spotted flowers. They prefer a cool, moist acidic soil or ericaceous compost
  • Trumpet – early flowering, highly scented & very tall, with a distinctive trumpet shape
  • Skyscraper – prolific flowering oriental lilies that produce 25-30 flowers from 1 bulb
  • Longiflorum hybrids – sweetly scented open flowers that bloom in August. They tolerate lime, hot sunny conditions & need free-draining soil
  • Other types of lilies include Turk’s cap, martagon & exotic lilies
