Weigela 'Follis Purpureis' is a compact shrub ideal for small gardens, providing a long season of foliage and flower colour.

This neat, slow growing Weigela is ideal for providing low-maintenance colour to the front of a border or small garden and is even compact enough to grow in a large container. Whether you have big borders or a patio, terrace or courtyard space, you can enjoy the long-season of interest provided by this easy-care shrub. In late spring and early summer clusters of bright pink flowers make a beautiful contrast to the deep purplish-green leaves. These lovely blooms are also a magnet to bees who will climb right into the flowers to collect the pollen. This hard working little shrub thrives in most conditions, so it can be very useful for filling a challenging space such as in the shade of a tree or among other shrubs. Likewise, it's a reliable choice for providing a great display in any spot in the garden, even if you're not green fingered.

Plant this shrub in almost any conditions and you'll be rewarded with a fantastic, long-season display of colour with the very minimum of fuss.

Plant Care & Advice

Weigelas are happy to be grown in anything ranging from full sun to full shade. This variety is compact in size, so perfect for filling that difficult space where not much else will grow.

Unfussy in terms of soil, this variety is fine in just about any soil type as long as it's not waterlogged. Grow this shrub in borders or a large container. If planting in a container, use garden soil or a soil-based compost to fill the pot as it's much more robust for a long-lasting shrub like this.

Water well when first planted and keep watering regularly throughout the fist season to help establish the root system. Once the plant has settled in, it will only require watering if it's in a particularly sunny and dry spot.

It's not essential to feed a Weigela, but you can apply an all-purpose liquid feed during the growing season to help encourage bushy, healthy growth.

Prune or trim once a year after flowering has ended. You can use shears to clip the shrub into a neat shape. Remove any dead or out of place branches as and when you notice them.
