Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' is a much-loved, award-winning classic, prized for its late-season vibrancy and reliable nature.

A popular variety with bees and butterflies, the fabulous yellow flowers are nectar-rich and also bring those much-needed highlights to any planting scheme, particularly when planted with contrasting flowers in shades of blue, pink and purple. The flowers stand on sturdy, upright stems, each bloom with a striking black centre. This hardy and easy-to-grow perennial thrives in any sunny location where it will produce a fabulous display of colour from late-summer right the way through to late autumn. Clump-forming and fully hardy, over the years the plants will form bigger, more established groups , each year returning with a bigger and more impressive display of flowers.  Best suited to beds and borders, Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' is ideal for combining with other flowering perennials to give a cottage-garden effect, or try it with soft ornamental grasses to achieve a trendy, low-maintenance prairie-style planting.

Plant Care & Advice

Rudbeckia is easy to grow and very resilient, thriving in virtually any sunny or partially shaded spot, including exposed, coastal or dry gardens as well as smaller, more enclosed spaces.

This variety grows well in most soils and is best suited to growing in beds and borders, although it can also be planted in large containers for displaying on the patio. Plant it behind lower-growing varieties for a really full display. If planting in containers, use a good soil-based compost.

Water well when first planted and continue to water regularly through the first growing season. Once established, this plant will only require occasional watering during particularly hot, dry spells. If planting in a container, water whenever the soil looks completely dry.

Rudbeckia can grow very well without feeding although you can apply an all-purpose liquid feed occasionally during the growing season to encourage healthy growth and aid establishment. If planted in a container, it's a good idea to feed occasionally through the growing season even when established.

During the flowering season, deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers. In early winter, or after flowering, cut back the stems to ground level.
