Vaccinium vitis-idaea Miss Cherry Meliro

Large unusual fruit in late summer

This evergreen shrub is a close relation to a Blueberry and looks great in autumn covered in deep red fruits which are delicious in deserts. Small white flowers in late spring and early summer are an added bonus.

Ideal for a container on a patio where it will give year round interest or at the front of a border in moist soil. Happy in sun or part shade.

Plant in lime free soil and use ericaceous compost - specially formulated for acid-loving plants for container growing. Feed once a week through the summer with a suitable liquid fertiliser.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
