Vinca minor Bowle's Variety

GardenAward

Lesser Periwinkle

Possibly the best blue flowered variety

The flowers on this lovely Periwinkle shine on dull, late winter days reminding us that spring is not far away. The flat, clear blue blooms come from greyish white buds. Looks good planted with early spring daffodils.

Where?

This ground covering plant is happy in any garden soil, in sun or shade. A good choice for a part of the garden which is difficult to get to. Also good for winter hanging baskets where stems will trail.

How?

Water well after planting and occasionally in dry weather until established. Trim back as needed.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
