Spiraea japonica Golden Princess

Compact variety perfect for pots

The Golden Princess is a golden leaved deciduous shrub that turns red-ish bronze in the Autumn. It is especially good in mixed borders, producing clusters of soft pink blossoms during the Summer.

Where?

Choose a partial shaded location rather than full sunlight, which may damage the foliage. Most soil varieties are suitable providing it is well-drained.

How?

Plant out rather than using containers and propagate from cuttings or through division. Prune annually after flowering to encourage new growth and vigorous flowering. If overgrown it can be pruned back hard after flowering.

A winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
