Spiraea japonica Double Play Gold Yan

PollinatorAward

Golden foliage and hot pink summer flowers

Displaying a golden feathered foliage, forming from pale pink early shoots, Double Play Gold conjures up a profusion of gorgeous soft pink flowers that give added contrast with the foliage. It will naturally create a shapely plant that can act as a focal point.

Where?

They need full sun to be at their best, so don't crowd with other plants. They spread right to the ground, making a striking statement in a container.

How?

They will thrive on their own in moist free-draining soil. When pruning, wait until late winter or early spring when the harshest frosts have passed and reduce the shrub by about a third annually to encourage new growth.

As the flower clusters fade prune them back to encourage more.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
