Flowering Currant

Compact variety with red flowers in spring

Easy to grow and always a delight in late spring and early summer when the plants are smothered in clusters of pink flowers that hang on the upright branches for weeks, a neat grower and a good choice for smaller spaces.

Where?

Ideal for the middle of a border in sun or part shade and any garden soil. Or grow in a large container on the patio.

How?

Water well after planting and occasionally during prolonged dry weather. Once your plant has been growing for several years, some of the old wood can be removed in early summer to encourage new shoots.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
