Rhododendron Shamrock

GardenAward

Perfect for a small garden

A delightful dwarf rhododendron forming a compact, spreading shrub with small, glossy dark green leaves. Green buds appear in early spring in small clusters. These open to cheery pale yellow flowers giving the whole plant an uplifting greenish hue. An ideal plant for a small garden; an excellent subject for pots and containers.

Where?

Plant in sun or shade in beds and borders or grow it in a large pot. Perfect under the shade of deciduous trees with ferns and hostas.

How?

Well drained but most neutral to acid soil. If growing in a pot use ericaceous, lime free growing medium. Water regularly in dry spells. Remove flower heads when blooms have faded.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. If planting in a bed or border test the soil to establish its pH. If the soil is too alkali it is best to grow your plant in a container. In either case prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig ericaceous compost into the base of the hole, if planting in a container use ericaceous compost to fill the pot. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
