Cherry Laurel

Perfect hedging plant

This handsome evergreen is fast growing once established and makes a great hedge or screening shrub. Long, rounded glossy green leaves make a dense plant and set off the upright spikes of creamy white flowers that appear in early summer on mature plants.

Where?

Very tolerant of shady conditions as well as full sun and poor, dry soils.

How?

Plant in any soils as long as they are not waterlogged in winter. Water regularly in prolonged dry spells until established. Plant two to three feet apart to make a hedge.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
