Mahonia x media Winter Sun

Large, vigorous variety producing masses of flowers

This is a large, erect winter flowering evergreen shrub with long dark-green spiny leaves. Upright spikes of paler yellow flowers appear in the winter months and will sometimes be followed by dark blue-black berries.

It prefers full or part shade in moist, well-drained soil.

Plant in well drained soil.

Underneath its leafy canopy are long leggy stems, a perfect place for shade-loving plants who might tolerate growing beneath the leaves.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
