Lavandula stoechas Larkman Hazel

PollinatorAward

Spanish Lavender

Compact form with needle like leaves and 'winged' flowers

A compact form of French Lavender with strongly scented grey green needle-like leaves which are the perfect back drop to the dusky purple flowers. These appear on wiry stems held well above the evergreen mounds and the plant blooms for months from summer until the autumn. Adored by bees.

Where?

Happiest in full sun and well drained soil. Ideal to grow on a sunny well sheltered, free draining bank and a good choice for coastal gardens or a large container.

How?

Good drainage is key so dig grit into the planting hole to help if your soil is heavy and wet in winter. Use loam based compost mixed with course grit for containers and provide shelter from cold winds. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain shape.

This hybrid was bred by Clive Larkman Nurseries in Australia.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
