Ilex x altaclerensis Golden King

Variegated Holly

Gold and green mottled leaves and bright red berries

This plant makes for a delightful addition to your garden with its strongly variegated green and golden leaves and brightly coloured winter berries. One of the best 'golden' holly varieties. This is a female variety (despite its name) which needs planting with male plants for best berry production.

These plants are best used as hedge rows, or as specimens for their architectural structures.

For fuss-free growth, the plant needs full sunlight and well-drained, moist soil.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
