Hydrangea macrophylla Madame Emile Mouillere

GardenAward

Traditional white variety which retains its colour irrespective of soil type

Originating in France over a century ago, this vintage beauty has been gracing gardens for many years with its classic, large globe shaped clusters of pure white flowers that gracefully fade to blushing pink with age. A wonderful site through the summer.

Where?

Happy in a sunny or partly shaded position. Ideal for a cottage garden, in a border or container. It also makes a great cut flower.

How?

Loves growing in a fertile, well-drained, soil. Keep well watered in dry spells. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
