Hydrangea macrophylla Black Steel White

A new variety that contrasts traditional flowers over stems which are almost black

This Hydrangea has lustrous green leaves that turn nearly black as the year progresses, combine this with glossy black stems and you have a wonderful contrast with the glowing white flower-heads. With flowers from summer to autumn, it's a perfect choice for adding bright colour to shady corners.

Where?

Happy in a sunny or partly shaded position. Ideal for a cottage garden, in a border or container. It also makes a great cut flower.

How?

Loves growing in a fertile, well-drained, soil. Keep well watered in dry spells. Use a good quality potting compost for container growing.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
