The New Zealand broadleaf is an evergreen shrub which grows quickly and has elongated, apple green leaves and small insignificant flowers.

Where?

It likes to bask in the sun and its evergreen nature makes it a superb hedge; it can also flourish in coastal areas.

How?

Grow in well drained soils and plant about a metre away from each for an attractive easily maintained hedge.

Hardy to minus 10 Celsius, fast growing if fertilised regularly. Known as Kapuka in its native New Zealand.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
