Escallonia laevis Gold Ellen

Evergreen shrub with golden foliage and bright pink flowers

Escallonia Gold Ellen has bright gold foliage, which ages to dark green with gold/yellow outlines. The flowers are clear, deep pink, and bloom from April to June.

Due to its smaller size, Gold Ellen is ideal for hedging, screens, informal gardens, and bed/borders.

The plant grows well in full sunlight or partial shade with moist but well-drained, chalky, loamy, or sandy soil.

Escallonia Gold Ellen is a relatively disease-free plant, requiring little maintenance.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
