A rounded shrub with leathery leaves that are beautifully marked with golden-yellow and splashes of lime green. It can be used to make a superb hedge, or planted in a shrub border. In autumn clusters of tiny, scented white flowers emerge and perfume the air. Its leafy stems are prized by flower arrangers.

It enjoys full sun or partial shade spot. It makes one of the best hedges in coastal areas.

How?

Plant in any moderately fertile well-drained soil. It is very hardy and easy to grow, and can be trimmed to shape as a hedge.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
