GardenAward

Looks great planted at the back of a boarder

A spectacular shrub for midsummer flowers and so easy to grow. This dainty plant has upright, twiggy stems clothed in pale green leaves. Delicate looking flowers appear in rose pink clusters from June and brighten the garden for several weeks. In autumn the leaves turn yellow before falling to the ground to reveal a twiggy silhouette.

Where?

Easy to please in sun or part shade. This is a fast growing shrub suitable for the back of a border.

How?

Happy in any garden soil. Keep well watered until established.

The genus name, Deutzia, honours Johann van der Deutz, an amateur botanist from Amsterdam.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
