Coprosma repens Pacific Night Hutpac

Looking-Glass Plant

Deep purple evergreen foliage

This plant, with its shiny purple leaves is always at talking point. An evergreen shrub, with upright growth, the leaves are deep purple, rounded and glossy making a feature through the year.

Where?

Happiest in well-drained soil, it can be grown in milder parts of the country at the front of a sunny border, sheltered from cold winter winds. However, it is best grown in a large container that can be moved under cover during hard weather.

How?

Use a good quality loam based compost to grow in a container. Trim to shape in late spring once new growth has started.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
