Cistus x dansereaui Decumbens

GardenAward

Rock Rose

Compact, low growing shrub with large paper like white flowers

An easy, evergreen shrub with twiggy mounds of sticky, deep-green, glossy leaves - a perfect back drop for the pure white flowers that have bold, deep-red blotches at the base of the petals.

Where?

A tough, fast-growing plant for a sunny seaside garden they're a good choice for a well-drained sunny bank where they don't mind dry conditions.

How?

Plant in free-draining soil and trim lightly after flowering to maintain the mound-like shape.

Originally from the Mediterranean, Cistus don't mind droughts and aren't bothered by the scorching sun and salt winds of exposed seaside gardens.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
