Cistus x corbariensis

Rock Rose

Very hardy compact plant with masses of smaller white flowers

This beauty makes a neat, twiggy mound of bronze-green, wavy leaves which are sticky to the touch and a feature all year round in an open, sunny spot. In summer, the plant is covered in pure-white flowers that have fluffy yellow centres.

Where?

Happiest in full sun and well-drained soils - it even copes with drought once established. An ideal evergreen shrub to plant on a free-draining bank in full sun.

How?

Plant in an open spot. Water well after planting and occasionally during dry spells until established. Trim lightly after flowering to remove the seed pods.

The leaves of this Sun rose have a balsam like scent which you'll notice on hot days.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
