Ceanothus Madagascar

California Lilac

Small green leaves edged in yellow

A new variety of California Lilac that stands out thanks to its oval shaped leaves which are trimmed with yellow. The variegated evergreen foliage contrasts beautifully against thick collections of petite blue flowers which appear between May and June.

Great for sunny gardens, this shrub likes a sheltered position against a wall.

As with other varieties of Ceanothus it can be vulnerable to the frost and cold winds so should be protected during the winter. It does best in most well drained soils.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
