Ceanothus Lemon and Lime

California Lilac

Upright variety with unique green and gold foliage

An upright variety noted for its beautiful yellow and green variegated leaves. The lime colour of the foliage contrast well with the dark blue flowers that arrive in late spring.

Where?

Its upright, evergreen nature means it’s great for year round interest against a wall or on a trellis. It craves the sunlight and needs a sheltered location.

How?

Californian lilacs can be tender in cold weather so should be protected from the frost, they also benefit from some light pruning after they flower.

Mainly native to North America, California Lilac are drought resistant and will grow well in most soil types.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
