Magnify glass

Ceanothus griseus Yankee Point

California Lilac

Spreading habit with deep blue flowers

Vigorous and spreading with copious clusters of deep blue flowers from late spring until early summer. It has beautiful, glossy year round foliage, making it perpetually attractive.

It loves the sun and will do best in a sheltered location; it is ideal for growing against walls and will also do well in a border.

It isn’t a fan of the cold, so shelter well from cold winds and prune in the spring to keep it in good shape.

A great choice for problem areas, it will do well in poor soils as long as they are well drained. It is drought resistant and suitable for coastal areas.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
