Buxus sempervirens

Perfect for topiary or low formal hedging

Perfect for gardeners who like to cut back and keep their garden ship shape with a formal air. With deep green, glossy leaves and an upright habit, Box lends itself to topiary as well as a slow growing hedge which can be cut back to razor sharp lines each summer.

Box makes a tidy, upright evergreen which grows really well in dry shade but is happy almost anywhere as long as the soil is not too wet. As happy in a large container as it is in the ground.

Water the plants in well. Use a good quality loam based compost for containers and shelter plants grown in containers from cold winter winds.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
