Buddleja davidii Nanho Purple

PollinatorAward

Butterfly Bush

Fast growing variety

Eye catching violet blue flower spikes attract plenty of butterflies when this tough but elegant shrub is in flower through the summer. Silvery green leaves are a worthy backdrop to the flowers and the whole plant has an arching habit as the flowers weigh down the slender branches.

Where?

Grow in full sun and well drained soil for the best results.

How?

Plant at the back of a border in a sheltered position where butterflies can feast on the nectar. Water well after planting. Cut back hard annually in late spring to encourage young shoots and flowering.

Buddleja was previously known as Buddleia

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
