Magnify glass

Abelia grandiflora Kaleidoscope

Dramatic colour changing foliage

A semi-evergreen shrub that is easy to grow and really works hard in the garden. Grown predominantly for its glossy green and gold leaves which sprout in spring and turn to fiery-orange and red in autumn. Clusters of delicately scented, tubular white flowers are displayed on arching stems through the summer. Great for bees.

Best in a sheltered spot with good winter protection in full sun and any garden soil. Also suitable for a large container.

Prepare the ground by digging deeply before planting. Water occasionally until established. Use good quality loam based compost for growing in a container.

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
