Fragrant blooms throughout the Summer and Autumn

Rich orange-red buds open to form chalice-shaped blooms, each filled with an array of loosely arranged petals. Each petal is salmon-pink on the front, contrasting beautifully with a golde- yellow reverse. Glimpses of deeper apricot shades reveal themselves in the centre. The fragrance is medium strength, of a warm Tea Rose character, with hints of spiced apple and cloves. Young foliage has slightly bronze tones before maturing to mid green on a robust shrub that is highly resistant to disease and flowers with unusual continuity throughout the season. This easy to grow variety holds the RHS Award for Garden Merit. Recommended.

Lady of Shalott® is a robust grower and quickly makes a large, bushy plant with slightly arching stems. As such it is ideally suited to the middle or the back of the border and also performs well in larger landscaping schemes. An easy to grow and reliable variety.

The name is taken from one of Alfred, Lord Tennyson's poems which tells the story of The Lady of Shalott, who lived in a castle near to King Arthur's Camelot and was held in a spell. It was named for the Tennyson Society to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of his birth.

    Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.

Planting site Patio Container, Flower Border & Beds, Cottage Garden, Informal Garden, City Garden, Courtyard Garden.
