David Austin Rose Lady Emma Hamilton

Fragrant blooms throughout the Summer and Autumn

An unusual colour amongst English Roses, which catches the eye and draws you through the garden. When tight in bud the outer petals are the most wonderful dark red with dashes of orange. As they open they reveal petals which are tangerine orange on the front and more yellowy orange on the reverse. A lovely mixture of colours which contrast beautifully with the dark, bronzy green, young foliage that deepens to a polished dark green as they mature. When fully open the flowers are shaped like an incurved chalice with a strong, deliciously fruity fragrance with hints of pear, grape and citrus fruits. Free flowering and very healthy, it holds the RHS Award for Garden Merit.

A fairly upright, but broad, bushy shrub of medium height, suited to the middle of the border or for growing in a large container, carefully positioned to appreciate its wonderful fragrance.

In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, this beautiful rose was named after the mistress of Lord Nelson, Lady Emma Hamilton.

    Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.

Planting site Patio Container, Flower Border & Beds, Cottage Garden, Informal Garden, City Garden, Courtyard Garden.
