Fragrant blooms throughout the Summer and Autumn

Medium-sized cupped blooms of an unusually rich, pure yellow, which is hard to match even amongst modern roses. The fragrance is medium-strong, of the fresh Tea Rose type, with a cool violet character. Strong and vigorous, with attractive, smooth green foliage. Good repeat-flowering qualities from early summer onwards. Popular variety, which also holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit

A vigorous, upright variety that makes a very good climber. If planted to grow on a warm wall, it can easily grow to 10ft in height.

Graham Thomas was one of the most influential gardeners and writers of his time. He built a collection of Old Roses, which formed the basis of the National Collection at Mottisfont Abbey in Hampshire. A frequent visitor to the David Austin nursery, he selected this rose himself.

    Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. Prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot at least 15cm away from the wall, fence or support. Dig compost into the base of the hole. Remove the pot and position the plant – along with its supporting cane in the hole, leaning onto the support, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Arrange and tie the stems onto the support. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.

Planting site Patio Container, Flower Border & Beds, Cottage Garden, Informal Garden, City Garden, Courtyard Garden.
