Vigorous variety and long flowering

A large shrub that produces beautiful eye-catching ruby-red funnel-shaped flowers during May and June.

Where?

This Yakushimanum rhododendron can be planted in beds, borders or on a slope and looks great in a cottage garden or a container. Grow in a sheltered spot and protect from severe frost. It is happy in full sun or partial shade.

How?

Planting instructions

Water the plant in its pot thoroughly before planting – give it a good soaking. If planting in a bed or border test the soil to establish its pH. If the soil is too alkali it is best to grow your plant in a container. In either case prepare the area by digging a hole twice the size of the pot. Dig ericaceous compost into the base of the hole, if planting in a container use ericaceous compost to fill the pot. Remove the pot and position the plant in the hole, with the top of the rootball about level with the surrounding soil. Refill the planting hole with a mixture of garden soil and compost, firming as you go. Water in well and keep well watered during the plant's first year.
